Sunny and Sneezy June!

Book Appointment

Some people are more sensitive to sunlight than others, and we don’t just mean in regards to tanning!

Everyone is susceptible to UV rays damaging their eyes. With sunny times ahead it is important to re-emphasize the importance of sunglasses with UV protection. We could specify how young developing eyes don’t filter UV as well, or older eyes at risk of macular degeneration need good protection too– but in the end, everyone benefits from sun protection!

Interestingly, some people are sensitive to the sun in a particular way. When looking at a bright light, your brain causes your pupils to contract: get smaller and let in less light. Right next to that is the part of the brain that tells you to sneeze. The photic sneeze reflex is caused by bright light (often the sun) and causes about one fifth of people to sneeze! It doesn’t indicate anything special, but it is very interesting! (to eye nerds like us.)
